Linear Motor Fine Profile Grinding Technology


The objective at the beginning of the linear motor driven grinder development was a high efficient process, but recently priority was shifted to the ultra-precision process.
The reasons,
- 1.Longitudinal table oscillation speed drastically increase which makes the high productivities and small incremental feed
- 2.As a ball screw is no longer needed and precision deterioration factors such as backlash, stick-slip eliminated, tracking such as straightness, positioning and circular interpolation accuracy are greatly improved.
Fine profile grinding in High Efficiency
The most significant feature of the high speed table driven by a linear motor is that it provides the high efficiency and accurate profile grinding.
During the grinding process, the high speed grinding strokes provide the fast table reciprocation and continuous cutting. In this method, the up and down can be continuous conducted regardless of the table reversal.
The depth of the cut is reduced, but the over all cut depth is increased per unit of time.
Ordinarily there are crank and servo mechanisms methods in constructing high-speed tables. But Okamoto uses a linear motor driven table to increase frequency and accuracy in the high speed oscillating table system in which the acceleration can exceed 0.5 G versus 0.2 G from the ordinary grinder.
