Ultra Precision Surface Grinder
with Variable Hydrostatic Slideway System

In responding to the continuing rapid growth of large panel, Okamoto develops machine with unique variable hydrostatic system. These ultra precision grinders are used to manufacture large-size parts related to liquid crystal component such as XY-table process and large scale nozzles systems.

Variable Hydrostatic Slideway System
In order to obtain the highest level of straightness and flatness precision, a non-contact and sliding hydrostatic system is built in the guide way construction. The conventional hydrostatic slideway which is called fixed system which is very sensitive to the unbalanced load. If the work load is unbalanced the oil film will be compromised and the table will incline.
The variable hydrostatic slide system has a stability control over the flow rate and minimizes the change of the guide way oil film 1/7 of ordinary hydrostatic way system. It improves 4 times of the static rigidity on the hydrostatic guide way.
Temperature and Humidity Control
In the ultra-precision grinding process; the temperature control of the work piece is essential. During the grinding process, heat generation from the grinding, and vaporization of coolant cause big impact on the accuracy on the work piece. A constant temperature chamber is the solution to this situation. Constant Temperature Chamber is a room where the grinding process is enclosed by the stable temperature and humidity control to enable the accuracy of the work piece.

The world’s largest Ultra-Precision Surface Grinder with Hydrostatic Slide way

In December 2007, a double column type surface grinder of the UDG10035NC with the world’s largest hydrostatic guide way system was completed is in operation in Annaka Factory.
To meet the large ultra-precision grinder demands, the machine was developed as a mother machine with which the other machines are manufactured.
The gross weight of the UDG10035NC main body reached up to 250 tons, and it is capable of handling the work piece up to 10 meters in length, 3.5 meters in width.(Pass width 4 meters)
In addition, this machine was installed in a specially constructed pit within the constant temperature chamber with a temperature control of 23°C±0.5°C.
